WOODBRIDGE -- A group of friends playing poker at a house early Sunday overpowered and subdued a masked man who tried to rob them at gunpoint, authorities said.

Jarvis D. McCloud, 37, of Perth Amboy, has been charged with multiple robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and weapons charges, Woodbridge police said.

McCloud was armed with a 9mm handgun and wearing a mask when he broke into the basement of the house on Harrell Avenue at around 3 a.m. and demanded money, according to police.

The group of friends were able to overpower the McCloud and restrain him until police arrived, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.

McCloud was taken to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Facility in North Brunswick while he awaits a bail hearing.
