Suspect: James C. Brown, 25

A jury returns to deliberate in the case of the 2011 Backpage.com murders of four women. James Brown of Sterling Heights is being charged with first-degree murder for allegedly killing Renisha Landers, Demesha Hunt, Natasha Curtis and Vernithea McCrary. Brown is accused of placing their bodies in car trunks and leaving them in blighted area in Detroit.  Two of the victims were burned beyond recognition.

The 25- year-old man admitted that the women died in his home but not by way of his hands.  According to police records, Brown said he smoked marijuana with the women and had intercourse with some of them and passed out.

After gaining consciousness, Brown said all the women were dead. The four women are believed to have suffered an asphyxiation- styled death.

Backpage.com is an escort website for adults, where authorities say Brown responded to the women’s ads. Cell phone records, blood and DNA linked the Sterling Heights man to the victims.
