DENVER - Police in Denver say a suspect was shot dead by an officer during an undercover drug operation south of downtown.

No officers were injured in the shooting, Chief Robert White with the Denver Police Department said.

The shooting occurred at about 2:43 p.m. at Overland Pond Park near South Platte River Drive and West Florida Avenue, north of Overland Golf Course.

White said undercover officers were in the middle of buying drugs from the suspect when uniformed officers arrived at the scene. The suspect then pulled a handgun and aimed it at one of the uniformed officers.

One of the uniformed officers then pulled his gun and fired several times at the suspect, according to White.

White said the suspect was pronounced dead a short time later.

Two men told 7NEWS they were at Overland Pond Park working on documentary during the shooting and turned over their video cards to police.

Witnesses said that there were about 10 uniformed officers and about five undercover officers at the scene.

Officers said West Florida Avenue will be closed from South Platte River Drive to Santa Fe during the investigation.
