‘Major’ drug supplier nabbed with 50 pounds of heroin and cocaine sentenced to 8 years behind bars

Jeffrey Groth, 38, of Dunellen, was sentenced to 8 years in prison following a drug distribution investigation.
A Middlesex County man caught with heaping quantities of heroin and cocaine was sentenced to eight years in prison Monday, the state Attorney General’s office announced.
Jeffrey Groth, 38, of Dunellen, was pulled over by police in 2014 as part of an investigation into drug distribution from his home. Authorities believed he was on his way to complete a drug deal and they weren’t disappointed.
Police found 14,300 glassine folds of heroin in the vehicle and Groth admitted they would find more drugs and cash in his home.
A search of his house turned up $39,462 in cash, 20 kilograms of cocaine (over 44 pounds) and additional heroin. Police recovered a total of 3 kilograms of heroin (over 6 pounds) between what was found in the car and the home.
Investigators scouring the home also found scales, packaging materials, other drug paraphernalia and computer equipment linked to an “extensive” video and audio surveillance system guarding the residence.
Groth pleaded guilty to a charge of first-degree possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and must serve at least three years behind bars before he is eligible for parole
As part of the prosecution, he also forfeited the cash and two vehicles, authorities noted.
“Major narcotics suppliers like Groth exploit the epidemic of addiction in our communities, turning huge profits on the heroin and other drugs that are destroying so many lives,” Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said in a statement. “We’ll continue to target such drug traffickers and put them behind bars.”
