HAWTHORNE - Four reputed gang members are facing federal charges they robbed a Hawthorne bar on Christmas night before carjacking a taxi in Paterson and slashing the driver's throat, authorities said.

Wilbur Jonathan Barahona, 20, of Ridgewood, Jostin Reyes, 21, of Waldwick, Guillermo Carillo-Iraheta, 19, of Suffern, N.Y., and Juan Chiliseo-Vega, 19, of Suffern, N.Y.,  are charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, carjacking, use of a firearm during a crime of violence and kidnapping, the U.S. Attorney's Office for New Jersey said.

The four men, all alleged members of the 18th Street gang appeared before a judge in federal court in Newark on Wednesday.

Two other New York men had been previously charged — Balmore Carillo-Iraheta, 19, of Suffern, and Oscar Avalos-Cortez, 22, of New City.

The group was armed and had their faces covered when five of them entered the RD Benders at 7:20 p.m. as it was preparing to open. They robbed the bartender of a cell phone, charger and about $200 in cash from the register, court papers say. 

Avalos-Cortez allegedly drove the getaway car, a white Acura, authorities said.

Less than eight hours later, four of the men hailed a cab in Paterson, authorities said. While en route to their destination in Waldwick, the robbers showed weapons and ordered the cabbie to pull over in Ridgewood, according to police. They then tossed the driver in the back of the 2008 Dodge Caravan, police said.

The cabbie later told investigators he overheard the four discussing whether to kill to him, police said. Eventually they slashed his throat, hit him over the head with a beer bottle and dumped him along the side of the New York State Thruway in Woodbury, police said. They made off with another $80 as well as the driver's cell phone and watch, police said.

The cab driver survived his injuries, authorities said.

All six men are charged in the bar robbery. Barahona and Reyes are among the four also accused of taking part in the carjacking and attack on the cabbie.

Avalos-Cortez is free on $150,000 bond. The others are being held without bail.
