Nine Bloods street gang members have been indicted on drug racketeering and conspiracy charges after an investigation by New Jersey’s Attorney General’s Office.

The five-month investigation, “Operation Icebox,” found the alleged gang crew distributed heroin and other drugs in Paterson.

All of the gang members who authorities say referred to themselves as the ‘So Icy Boys," the office alleged in a statement.

The suspects are all from Paterson except one.

They are: Fabian Frater, 29; Marshea Anthony, 23; Charles Jackson, 24; Bryant Nevers, 22; Shadeik Stratford, 19; Jahvon Parker, 28; Michael Lawhorn, 28; and Karon Nevers, 25. Nhazir Briggs-Smith, 20, is from Elmwood Park.

The gang set up a drug trafficking network at 10th Avenue and 28th Street in Paterson. There also were a number of shootings between the ‘So Icy Boys’ Bloods and other gangs, some of which were fatal and resulted in two of the gang members being murdered during the investigation, the office said.

Shadeik Stratford, 19, is charged with first-degree attempted murder in the non-fatal shooting of a fellow gang member on Oct. 27. The victim, who is not identified in the indictment, was shot three times, the office said.

Authorities say Frater controlled the day-to-day operations.

In addition to the indictments, ten people who allegedly bought heroin, cocaine, or the anesthetic ketamine, aka “K,” from the ring during the investigation face drug possession charges.

“By taking down these alleged drug dealers in Paterson, which is a heroin distribution hub, we stopped countless doses of heroin from reaching users across the region each week, and we made the city safer by reducing street-level drug dealing and the violence that invariably accompanies it," Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal said in a statement announcing the indictments.

“This strategic investigation, conducted in partnership with the Paterson Police Department, targeted a criminal organization that we allege was fueling the deadly opioid epidemic and compromising the safety and quality of life of city residents,” Veronica Allende, directors of the office’s Division of Criminal Justice, said in the statement.

The Attorney General’s Office also credit Paterson Police Department, The New Jersey State Police and Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office for their assistance in the investigation.
