      Baby girl, 2 adults shot in Asbury Park

      Authorities are investigating a shooting that injured three people, including a juvenile, on Comstock Street in Asbury Park Monday evening


      ASBURY PARK – Authorities are investigating a shooting that injured three people, including a baby girl, in the city on Monday evening.

      Shortly after 7:20 p.m. Monday, authorities responded to reports of multiple gunshots on the 700 Block of Comstock Street, Capt. Anthony Salerno of the Asbury Park Police Department said.

      Police estimated that between 13 and 15 rounds were expended in the shooting, but Salerno said that estimate would be subject to further investigation.

      A 29-year-old mother and her 1-year-old daughter were both struck and sustained minor injuries that were not believed to be life threatening, Salerno said. They were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment.

      A 19-year-old male also later presented himself with a gunshot wound at the same hospital, Salerno said. A subsequent investigation determined that the male had been injured at the same location and in the same incident as the mother and daughter, Salerno said.

      The 19-year-old male's injuries were also not believed to be life threatening, Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Charles Webster said.

      “We don’t know at this time if he was an innocent bystander or if he was an intentional target,” Salerno said Monday night. “But what we do know, is that the mother and her daughter were innocent bystanders.”


      The Asbury Park Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office are conducting a joint investigation into the shooting.

      No arrests had been made as of 9:45 p.m. and the investigation was ongoing at that time, Webster said.

      No other details on the shooting were released.

      Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Asbury Park Police Department at 732-774-1300 or the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-431-7160.
