WALLINGTON — A body has been recovered from inside a vehicle found submerged Saturday in the Passaic River, officials said.
Authorities have yet to release the name of the deceased person, but investigators have matched the license plate of the car to a vehicle belonging to a missing Passaic woman, said Kim Lucas, a spokeswoman for the Wallington Police Department.
Devorah Stubin, 22, of Passaic, went missing after leaving her home to pick up her brother in the area of Exit 151 on the Garden State Parkway on Thursday night, Passaic Detective Andrew White said.
Stubin, who suffers from a seizure disorder, was last seen at about 12:30 a.m. on Friday when she was stopped by a police officer after she became lost in Maywood, White said.

Police are asking for the public's help in locating a Passaic woman with a medical condition who went missing early Friday morning after getting lost.
The officer directed her back to the Parkway in her 1998 Mitsubishi Galant, but no one has heard from her since then, he said.
Stubin's car, which was discovered submerged in the river near a home in Wallington Saturday afternoon, fell down a 10-foot embankment before crashing into the river, Lucas said.
How long the car was in the water before it was discovered remains unclear, Lucas said. Also unclear is what specifically caused the death of the person authorities found inside, she added.
The body recovered from the vehicle has been taken to a local hospital for examination, Lucas said.
Members of the Chaverim of Rockland County, a group who had been assisting Passaic County authorities with the search for Stubin, said it was called off Saturday evening shortly after the car was found.
Search coordinator Josef Margaretten said that authorities told the searchers that Stubin's body had been found inside the car.
"We thought the outcome would be better, but we're happy that we found something," he told NJ Advance Media.
A WNBC report also states that the body recovered from the vehicle has been identified as Devorah Stubin.
A search of the Passaic River was initiated after authorities discovered the car submerged in the river Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
Several units from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, Wallington Fire Department and other area law enforcement agencies could be seen at the scene as authorities worked to tow the car from the river
The incident is not being treated as a crime at this time, Lucas said. An investigation into the crash by the Wallington Police Department is ongoing.
