HOBOKEN, NJ — Five men in their twenties from Hoboken and Jersey City were arrested Wednesday for assault after a fight drew a crowd in the area of the Hoboken Housing Authority buildings.
Police say that around 12:46 p.m., they were dispatched to the area of Third and Harrison streets on a report of a group of men fighting in the street. It was also reported that one of the males involved was seen with a handgun, although police did not find one.
Instead, the police found a crowd of approximately 25 people, and no one fighting at the time. However, witnesses told police what had just taken place, and a subsequent investigation led to five arrests.
A search related to Mendez’s arrest revealed he was in possession of a sock filled with a Duracell D battery, according to police. Mendez was transported to police headquarters and processed by Police Officer Teddy Santiago. Mendez was charged on a warrant with riot, disorderly conduct, simple assault, and unlawful possession of a weapon, and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
Officers were able to separate them and they were placed under arrest, police said. The two were identified as Jamil Rivera, 20, from Hoboken, and Kyeise Lopez, 22, from Hoboken.

They were identified as being in the crowd when officers first arrived, police said. Both men were placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. They were both charged with riot, disorderly conduct, and simple assault.
