      Newark man arrested for allegedly selling, stashing drugs in a Popeyes bag

      Anthony Taylor, a 25-year-old Newark resident, was arrested Tuesday afternoon on 111 S. 10th Street in the city's North Ward by Essex County sheriff's officers.Essex County Sheriff's Dept.

      NEWARK — Detectives arrested a 25-year-old man in the city's North Ward for allegedly possessing a Popeye's bag filled with narcotics and attempting to sell drugs.

      On Tuesday afternoon, Essex County sheriff's detectives saw Anthony Taylor of Newark retrieving items from a Popeye's chicken bag and appearing to sell drugs in the 100 block of South 10th Street.

      Detectives approached Taylor and upon searching the bag discovered 80 glassine envelopes of heroin stamped "MAX-B" in red ink, 68 bags and vials of crack cocaine, 10.8 grams of crack cocaine in another bag and 39 bags containing marijuana, according to Sheriff Armando Fontoura.

      The estimated street value of the drugs is $3,000, authorities said.

      "Given the variety of narcotics in his possession, the suspect was apparently catering to all tastes," Fontoura said in a statement.

      Authorities charged Taylor with multiple drug offenses including intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of Martin Luther King School.

      Taylor was taken to the Essex County jail in lieu of $35,000 cash bond.
