      Newark man identified as Elizabeth shooting victim; reward offered for tips in case

      ELIZABETH — Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest in the fatal shooting Monday of a man identified as a 22-year-old Newark resident.

      Bryant Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene in the 200 block of Second Street, in the Port section of the city, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace Park said.

      At 5 p.m. police received numerous 911 calls of a shooting on Second Street near Pine Street, Park said in a statement.

      She said officers arriving at the scene found Sanders on the ground. Officers cordoned off a two-block section of Second Street for several hours.

      As of this morning, no arrests had been made in the shooting, Park said.

      "A reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in connection with the death of Mr. Sanders is being offered by the Union County Crime Stoppers," Park said.

      Tips can be made anonymously by calling (908) 654-TIPS (8477), or by sending a text message to “UCTIP” and a message to 274637 (CRIMES), authorities said. Information can also be submitted online at www.uctip.org.

      This was the second homicide in the city this year and the second in the county.

      On Feb. 2, city police responding to a 911 call found 2-year-old Dayanna Oroczo dead in her father's apartment in a house on Westfield Avenue.

      The next day, police arrested the child's mother, Raquel Ramirez, 30, and charged her with one count of aggravated assault. According to the criminal complaint filed in court, Ramirez bit the child on the stomach and struck the victim repeatedly.

      Ramirez is being held at the Union County jail in Elizabeth on $150,000 bail. Authorities said the girl died from "multiple forms of blunt trauma."
