      NYPD: Gunman fatally shoots 45-year-old outside P.S. 112 in the Bronx Wednesday morning

      The gunman rolled up in a car, got out and blasted the victim, who was standing on a sidewalk outside of P.S. 112 in Bronxwood.


      Shooting near P.S. 112

      A man was shot to death outside of a Bronx school on Wednesday morning, not long after the start of classes.

      The 45-year-old victim was shot in the back of the head as he stood on a sidewalk outside of Public School 112 at the corner of E. 229th St. at Schieffelin Ave. in the Bronxwood section just after 9 a.m., cops said.

      The killer rolled up in a car, exited the vehicle and fired two shots, according to NYPD Deputy Inspector Ruel Stephenson, commanding officer of the 47th Precinct. The gunman fled in the car.

      The victim died at the scene. His name was not immediately released. 

      “Although the shooting occurred near P.S. 112, the elementary school, it doesn’t appear that the shooting has anything to do with the school,” Stephenson said.

      Teachers wouldn’t allow anyone in or out of the school building after shots were heard, a Department of Education spokeswoman said. Students and staff remained inside as cops investigated, Stephenson said.

      Neighbors said gunfire is a common occurrence in the neighborhood.

      “There are shootings up here all the time,” said Irving Jones, 61. “There’s always shootings every time you turn around. You come outside and you don’t know what’s going to happen. You might see an argument. ... You might hear shots.”

      Detectives were questioning a 43-year-old suspect in connection with the shooting, but charges had not been filed as of late Wednesday afternoon, cop sources said.
