A federal agent died and two other law enforcement officers were injured in a shooting on an Amtrak train at a station Monday morning in Tucson, Arizona.

Members of a regional narcotics "alliance" of local and federal authorities were conducting a routine check on a stationary train when a man opened fire, Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus said Monday. Authorities were detaining another man on the train's upper deck when the shooter pulled out a handgun, he said.

Two Des Moines-area police officers were shot to death early Wednesday in ambush-style attacks while they were sitting in their patrol cars, authorities said.

Police said they captured the man suspected in the killings, identified as Scott Michael Greene, 46.

Des Moines and Urbandale police previously described Greene as armed and dangerous and urged members of the public not to approach him.

Police did not explain how they identified Greene as a suspect.

A gunman who shot a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s sergeant in the face was captured by a SWAT team Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The man had opened fire on the sergeant called to the scene of a robbery in an apartment complex around 12:30 p.m. in Lancaster, Calif., roughly 70 miles north of L.A., officials with the sheriff’s department told the Los Angeles Times. Sgt. Steve Owen, a 29-year-veteran of the department, died from his injuries hours later.
