Be clear, the s*** cover art and roman numerals for Teyana Taylor's debut album, VII, arriving in a few days, have a deeper meaning.
“The roman numeral seven is for completion. I am finally ready to give fans a full body of work,” Teyana told REVOLT earlier this week "Seven means so much to me because I’m so used to getting close to the door and it slams in my face.”
Teyana Taylor Asks That You 'Do Not Disturb' Her And Chris Brown
The last seven years have been some of the most patient years in the G.O.O.D Music star’s life and she is ready to show the world why they should keep believing in her.
Teyana started her singing career with a record deal under Interscope and Pharrell’s Stark Trak imprint where she released commercial songs like “Google Me,” which fell flat on fans ears back in 2008. Although it gained traction for its catchiness, she was searching for an opportunity to release music that both she and the label could be happy with.
Enter Kanye West and G.O.O.D Music in 2012. G.O.O.D., meaning Getting Out Our Dreams, has allowed the singer to do just that. She credits both Kanye and Pharrell, still, for pushing her to reach her potential and teaching her about timing and patience.
The “Maybe” singer asserted, “I am glad I didn’t get everything I wanted at 15…I wouldn’t have known what to do with all of that success at a young age. I’m more mature now.” She also set the record straight, “I am not just a spoiled rich girl who was on Super Sweet 16 whose mom paid for her to get a music video. I am an artist. I worked very hard to get where I am.”
Teyana Taylor Recalls A Surprise Visit From Best Friend Chris Brown
Now, though, is her time to finally release a full-length album on a major label and cement her mark in the R&B sand.
The long-awaited LP is out on November 4 and boasts collaborations from Yo Gotti, Pusha T, Fabolous and even close friend Chris Brown for the sultry “Do Not Disturb” duet.
The 23-year-old discussed her relationship with Breezy when we explained, “Everyone knows we are best friends. The moment I heard "Do Not Disturb" I had to have Chris on it. It’s s*** and you can dance to it.”
Teyana says her album will be full of “baby-making music that you can relax to and clean, even get a massage with candles to,” as she compared it to old school Janet and R. Kelly music and she is ready for the world to see her vision.
