Suspension proceeding for eight cadets at the Citadel began in Charleston, D.C. on Thursday after social media pictures of a group of white men in white pillowcase hoods with eyeholes were discovered. Citadel President Lt. Gen. John Rosa called the pics — allegedly showing an upper-class cadet and seven other cadets singing Christmas carols as part of a ’Ghost of Christmas Past’ skit — “offensive and disturbing.” The shots were revealed after a woman says she denied online advances from a man whose feed included the offending snaps, which she re-posted. “These images are not consistent with our core values of honor, duty and respect,” Rosa said in a statement.US United States @US_UnitedStates

If there’s a hoverboard under your tree, you might want to keep the receipt. Citing a potential fire hazard, three major U.S. airlines (Delta, American, United) have banned the boards from cabins and cargo holds as the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says it’s investigating at least 10 reports of the scooters bursting into flames. Also, citing several stories of people getting injured falling off of them, Overstock.com has stopped selling the boards. Officials in the UK have seized 15,000 of the boards (over 90 percent of imports) since October because of fears of fire or explosions.

Quick Take: With the next Republican debate coming up on Tuesday, news has emerged that, at a dinner this week, GOP brass discussed potentially having a brokered convention in case the nominating contest for their party’s presidential candidate lingers long into the summer. The plans would go into place if no candidate gets enough delegates to outright win the nomination, marking the first time in decades the party has considered such a maneuver. A brokered convention unfolds when no single candidate gets enough delegates to lock the nomination on first ballot, allowing delegates to be shifted to other candidates in order to get a consensus winner.
